F*ck Perfection - Let’s Get Brave

How often do you find yourself holding back because you consider yourself a perfectionist? Is perfectionism something that is fed by your Instagram or Snapchat filter habit, as well as your flawless contouring skills? Maybe you won’t commit to applying to do something unless you have 100% of the skills needed?

Whilst we may think that living a life as perfect as the ones we see on our social media feeds, is what we should all be striving for, could the idea of perfection be a complete misnomer.

Maybe, just maybe, aiming for perfection by smiling, being nice and getting good grades is something that, as women, we’ve been brought up around. Whereas men get brought up to jump from the highest rung on the climbing frame and get rewarded for taking risks. This talk, by creativity and empowerment coach Kate Taylor, sends out a rally cry to help us take more chances and sticks two fingers up to the idea of Little Miss Perfect.

The talk will begin at 6.30pm, so please ensure you're here before then to get a good seat. We'll have a Q+A at the end, with a chance to chat afterwards.

About Kate Taylor

Kate Taylor is a leading empowerment and creativity coach, writer, and speaker enabling women to seek out their ‘why’ so they can live a creative life on their own terms. She’s on a one-woman-mission to help others live life full of creative expression in order to live well, work well, and feel good.

Working with - and a regular speaker for - female business founders and women in the creative industries, she knows just how hard it is to let go of the idea of taking chances in order to live the life you truly desire.

Basics of Weaving with Lucy from Peas and Needles

  • One Girl Band Space

This class is ideal for beginners who are interested in learning the basics of weaving on a lap loom. Weaving is a fast growing trend, is well known for its therapeutic tendencies and allows you to play with texture and colour culminating in the creation of your own wall hanging. Why not try a new craft for the new year!

The class will cover how to warp up a loom including how to get the tension right. You will learn how to make tassles to give your wall hanging a simple fringe finish. It will cover various weaving techniques which Lucy will talk you through step by step throughout the lesson. You will be encouraged to experiment with colours and textures using a selection of yarns and roving to create your piece. You will then be shown how to take your weave off the loom and get it ready to hang using a piece of doweling which will give your wall hanging a perfect finish.

All materials will be provided and you will get to go home with one small but wonderful weaving ready to hang on your wall. Classes are limited to 8 spaces so please be quick if you would like to book.

Lucy runs a craft and lifestyle blog that has been featured in many craft magazines including Mollie Makes which she has written tutorials for. She is a self taught weaver and crafter and is excited to pass on these skills to other makers.

OGB Expertise Session // At H.EN

How to present your brand on Social Media

Our first Expertise Session of the season will be headed by our founder, Lola.

Lola is a mentor to female entrepreneurs who want to create a better life for themselves, and perhaps need some clarity and guidance on their brand's message. She specialises in social media help, particularly Instagram. Lola can't really say how good she is because she's writing this right now, and that would be weird. Just have faith that she's good at what she does.

We'll be learning things such as:

  • How to brand your social media for your business
  • Social media scheduling (key times and days, the best software + resources to use, how to avoid overwhelm, basically keeping it as easy as possible!)
  • Strategies and content ideas for your brand
  • Tips for boosting your conversion rate and ultimately, result in sales

The wonderful H.EN will be our venue, and we'll have a section of the restaurant to natter, drink, eat and learn. You get a welcoming drink included in your ticket (choose from cocktails, wine, beer, coffee/tea, and the usual softs) and H.EN will be serving food so feel free to support them and grab some dinner.

Bring your notepad and your stories!

Remember, you are more than welcome to join us if you are not a member of One Girl Band. Just purchase your ticket below (and perhaps have a scour of our Member's page to see if it tickles your fancy? You save £51 if you're a regular!).

If you are a member, please secure your spot to this Expertise Session by adding to cart, and then entering your discount code at checkout. We will check your details coincide with your membership, and if there are any issues, we'll be in touch.

Dionne has been creating art, music and wellness projects between UK and Norway since 2010, and is passionate about creating inclusive spaces to connect and inspire.

In this session, we will explore how to be real about the way we take care of ourselves.

We will be covering a range of related subjects including mindfulness, meditation, food + nutrition, being + living well, work/life balance, combating busy-ness, energy, creativity, and self care. We'll focus on ourselves for once, not our businesses.
